Kevin asks the What Advice Would You Give to Graham Question!

Truth is, yes Graham would like to lose some weight. Yes, he didn’t manage to reach his goal weight by age 60. Stuff got in the way. But can Kerrie help?

Thanks to Kevin Appleby, Kerrie interrogated Graham. Why did he want to be 13 stones? He’s not seen that part of the scales since his 20s! Graham told the story of his 5 stone weight loss ahead of a family holiday to the Dixie Dude Ranch in Texas. If he couldn’t lose weight, he was not going on the back of a horse. (I think their weight ban was 17 stones). So, courtesy of Sureslim, a diet based on the absence of carbohydrates, Graham managed to shed weight successfully.

Can you see yourself on this diet in 5 years time?

If you have a goal in mind, like horse riding in Texas, Kerrie says it is quite easy to achieve success with weight loss. The problem with diets is we are being told what to do.

Graham wanted to know if he was typical of the types of clients that Kerrie helps? Yes, lots of people deal with a similar type of recurring thought process – that I need to go on a diet to see a result. Or, you have to give up the things you love to see a result. Half the time, Kerrie says, it feels like obligation, we are having to give something up. Which, right away, is a problem with your mindset.

Words of Weight Loss Wisdom

Shortcuts give us long term delays.

You can’t out-train a bad diet.

Grow old by getting younger

The Step by Step

  1. Get Doing to get being the person you want to be.
  2. What’s your goal. Dont set an outcome goal that’s too far away – you might eat more because of the stress
  3. How would that future pacing version of me be like? Start doing the habits now.

Weight loss coach Kerrie suggests we parent ourselves. We have always been external driven – give me a diet plan. If it didn’t work, you have an excuse. So keep the things you like doing, like going for Fish n Chips at Elland Road when Leeds United are playing..

Sometimes people know they want to lose weight, but they cannot be bothered. Kerrie asks what are your values, what does excite you. Family, travel.

We are getting fatter in the UK

From the BBC
It’s estimated 64 percent of British adults are now overweight, having a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or more. This includes around 28 percent who are obese (with a BMI of 30 or more), double the percentage figure in 1990, when obesity affected just 14 percent of British adults. More than 10 percent of obese people in the UK have a BMI of 35 or more.

There is no finish line with your health

How can you ADD. Health is about the things you gain. For example, getting more active, drinking more water, having less stress, how do I want to feel. For many of the clients they have been carrying weight for decades.

You won’t get told WHAT to eat.

By feeling better you’ll consciously make better food choices.

The right mental attitude is to bring some mindfulness to what and when you are eating. Take a step back. Think of the diet you are eating now. Would you allow your children to eat the same diet day after day? Probably not.

Kerrie advises you do not give up what you love. Treat your calories like your money. Watch your expenditure during the week. If you undershoot your budget, then you build in flexibility to do the things you like.

Also set up your environment to support your success. Kerrie collects a food diary? This helps to bring awareness of the current place you are in. What are we eating?
