Catalyst with Louisa Clarke

Catalyst is a new book authored by Louisa Clarke and David Kean. We had hoped to have both authors on the show, but David was out on the day practising what the new book preaches – meeting people. The sub-headline to Catalyst, is “Using Personal Chemistry to Convert Contacts into Contracts”. It’s all about the science and art of making sales through human contact by being useful to each other.

Louisa Clarke & David Kean, Catalyst, The Next 100 Days Podcast

Their Definition of a Catalyst

Someone that creates a reaction with someone-else. We you both come together, if you make the most of that connection, both of you are transformed. You may have been in a situation with another person where there is a spark, a connection, where you have so much in common and the conversation seems very easy. Then again, you can meet people, but whatever you try, it just feels like really hard work.

The book helps by helping you make more of those positive connections. So the time you spend with people is worthwhile and enjoyable for you.

Testimonial from Susan Devonshire, CEO The Marketing Society

‘Accelerate your understanding of how to grow business, fast. Recommended to anyone who dreads networking events: an entertaining and effective guide to oiling the wheels of business without the need to be oleaginous’

— Sophie Devonshire, CEO, The Marketing Society

What does oleaginous mean?

Louisa shared an example of meeting someone, who sat next to her at an event. This lady explained an issue she was facing and Louisa used the phrase:

“WOULD IT BE HELPFUL?”

Stop selling and start helping. If you help people they generally appreciate that.

What are the Practical Things You Should be Doing in the Next 100 Days?

The book talks about a 60 day programme. This is all about creating habits. Louisa says:

1.  Setup – who do I need to target? What level are these people – C Suite or middle management? Think about the industries they are most likely to be from. Can you get more publicity for your own material – maybe by appearing on The Next 100 days Podcast! Do you know people in the industries and companies you wish to target?

2. Daily/Weekly and Monthly Tasks – make it deliverable. 3 contacts per day. Now, after lockdown, people are keen to meet! On a weekly basis can that be blogging, linkedin posts. Monthly is about tracking progress – projects won etc.

Treat yourself as your most important client, which means you should invest in your own business.

What do Louisa and David at The Caffeine Partnership want to achieve in the next 5 years?

The Caffeine Partnership is where Louisa and David work. They want to dispel the myth that business is NOT personal. It is personal. If you have lost confidence in getting to know people, then contact Louisa at The Caffeine Partnership.

Kevin made the case that his new business GrowCFO, is all about putting relationships in front of people. People do want to be treated as an individual.

We sort of think that David Kean has the look of Ole Gunnar Solskjær? What do you think?

Look we know David wasn’t on the show to defend himself, but has he and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ever been seen in the same room at the same time?
